I had the best time with Lynn-d during her mini brand session in Columbia, SC. 701 Whaley was the perfect location for these portraits, and in just an hour, we were able to document portraits and flatlays to help give her brand imagery a little refresh.
Lynn-d is a fabulous motherhood and newborn photographer here in the Midlands. She reached out while I was launching mini sessions for the season, and after a brief chat, we knew we’d be a great fit. I had the honor of photographing her with her family a few years ago, and it always means so much to have clients who return throughout different seasons of life and business.
We had our planning meeting a few weeks before her session and discussed everything from wardrobe to location. I’d had the beautiful opportunity to shoot at 701 Whaley during my wedding days, and it’s always such a joy to be in the light-drenched spaces. It was perfect for this sunny summer day as well. Plus, the fun accent wall is always a fun addition.
The key to mini sessions is location and efficiency. Whether you’re a brand photographer planning your mini sessions or a client preparing for your session, these two aspects can ensure you have the best experience.
Location is important because you want to be able to document variety within a short amount of time. Consistent lighting is also a plus because it means less time perfecting lighting and more time working through your shot list.
Location and lighting are huge, but efficiency is number one for me. A planning meeting before your session ensures you’re on the same page with your photographer/client. Having your props ready and easy to access means you aren’t using your limited time looking for things when you need them.
