So You’re Preparing For Your Brand Photography Session

What an exciting time, and congratulations! 

Getting ready for your brand photography session can be one of the most exhilarating experiences. You’ve likely just had an insightful experience with your planning session, and you’re about to bring some inspiring visuals to life! 

If you’re wondering how you’ll bring it all to life, I’ve got a handful of helpful tips to ensure your session goes as smoothly as possible! 

Make your Pinterest Board

This is a great time to sit with a glass of wine and gather inspiration. Be sure to include textures, moods, colors, shoot locations, and wardrobe. Ensure it encompasses your brand to help create a mood board for your shoot.  

Choose Your Location 

The location choice can make or break a shoot. You want to choose a warm, inviting, and light-filled location. Plus, you’ll want something that speaks to the visual look of your brand! 

Lighting is key

If there’s no light, it doesn’t matter how hard you planned. The images may fall flat if you’re not working with someone who knows how to find it (or create it!). 

Choose Your Wardrobe 

Choosing your wardrobe for a photoshoot can be the most exciting yet stressful part of the preparations, but it doesn’t have to be. 

Be sure to skip items likely to become dated quickly (like that cute patterned dress you picked for the fall season). Try putting together a more neutral ensemble instead! 

I recommend playing up your brand colors with accessories such as fun shoes, jewelry, textures, and layers. Also, consider finding pieces from your local makers and creatives! 

Don’t Forget the Shot List

Next up is the shot list. 

Chatting with your photographer about your shot list of images you need and expect from the session is essential while also building in time to let things flow. 

Are you shooting primarily for social media content, website refresh, email newsletters, print media for marketing, etc.? It’s great to know the answers to these questions ahead of time. 

This helps curate an authentic bank of photos that will serve you for a more extended period and cover all your needs across platforms! 

Bonus Tip

Ensure to pack and prepare a few days before your brand photo session to ensure you’re not missing something. There’s nothing worse than realizing the night before a session that something is missing!

*Things you might need in your bag: Make-up for touch-ups, Hairbrush, Hair spray, bobby pins just in case, Tide to-go pen, and a pair of comfy clothes to change into after the shoot.

Last but certainly not least, remember to HAVE FUN!!
